The Global Health Project team at UT is excited for its second semester! Spring 2010 will be busy, with two major projects and volunteering events planned throughout.
A list of our events and projects:
*General meetings every other Wednesday at 7pm in Burdine 208
--Next Meeting - February 17th
* Fundraising for the non-profit organization Mano a Mano (www.manoamano.org). Mano a Mano works in rural Bolivian villages to empower communities and support sustainable health care
* July trip (dates to be announced) to Bolivia - stay with Mano a Mano
*Members may get involved in planning a symposium on Haiti - scheduled for the week of April 12th. Meetings for the symposium take place every Sunday at 7pm at Cafe Medichi (on the drag).
--The objective of the symposium is to give historical and political context to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Haiti
--Panels - Aid & Development and Government & Human Rights
--Potential speaker from Doctors Without Borders or Partners in Health
*Volunteer opportunities with Austin Samaritans
*Speakers
--First Speaker - Dr. John Doty with the Austin Samaritans
*Study Group - Are you interested in exploring international health & humanitarian aid? GHP is starting an optional study group for those who would like to learn more about humanitarian work abroad. We will meet and discuss various topics in this important field.
*Future Planning - GHP would like to bring speakers for campus-wide events who can shed light on little-known humanitarian crises across the globe
*Leadership Opportunities
--Officer elections will take place at the end of April for those interested in leadership positions
--Officers have the freedom to collaborate and choose organizational projects for each semester
